The circus has been able to provide "a type of merriment and spectacle" to all-ages as it "transports itself by rail across the country.” (1) The Ringling Bros and Barnum & Bailey show was able to connect those who lived in the suburbs to the people in the city through a common form of entertainment. As well as connecting families and different populations, the circus was able to provide millions of jobs to those in need.
As "special trains conveyed the gilded caravans, mystic properties, herds of elephants, several hundred horses, and a colony of show people" parade through the streets of New York, citizens are aware that the circus is beginning. (2)
